Black Women Country Singers

Cover of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire (this chick rocks she even did a Janes Addiction Cover)

Does a cover of No Air

Interesting history
They weren’t country, but his is still cool to see and really shows how we have regressed when it comes to music.  I mean damn all we have now is hip-hop

If anyone knows of any other singers please post them in the comments.  Even if you aren’t into country it’s nice seeing black singers/musicians especially women that are expanding their horizons.  Also I’m planning on going through a country music festival of my own.  This is more or less a way to experience the music (for more than a week) to see how I really feel, what I like etc.  I did something like this as a kid and it was only for a week.  I don’t think a week was long enough.  Anyways since I don’t know of many country singers I would like suggestions of singers, places to watch vids listen to music etc. since I don’t have cable.

I’m not a country music fan at all, but these ladies are really talented & really good. I may have to start listening!

So glad to see Black women branching out. Thank goodness someone is showing that there’s more to music than hip flop. Yes, I call it hip FLOP!

If you’re including bluegrass, there’s the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a trio with a black woman doing most of the singing.

They also do a bluegrass version of “Hit Em Up Style”

There’s also the Ebony Hillbillies, although they don’t have any women in the group. Best known as an NYC subway band, they’ve also performed on stage.

If you haven’t heard of Leslie Christian by now you will soon enough. Leslie is a bright new country music singer and songwriter originally from Shelby/Newton NC now residing in Atlanta GA. She is a mix between Shania Twain, Whitney Houston and Carrie Underwood. She has a beautiful yet powerful voice with very hooky and memorable lyrics.

Please check out Leslie Christian on facebook at http://www.Facebook.com/LeslieChristianMusic. She is also on itunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/my-life-is-a-country-song/id384220999
